The process includes several steps: nomination, screening, and selection. The screening process includes parent and teacher input, examples of student work, and standardized assessment. More information about the AISD gifted program is available from the Department of Advanced Academic Services. This site can be found at:
If you are interested in nominating your child for the gifted program, please print out the attached forms below, fill out and return the completed forms to your child's teacher. The teacher will then give the forms to the GT Advocate on campus. You may also visit the AISD Advanced Academic website noted above and nominate your child online using the online GT Parent Nomination Form K-5. The GT Office will notify the Overton GT Advocate with the names of the students that were nominated online. Even though you have the option to nominate online, Kiker prefers that you use the attached forms to nominate your child. This way, the GT Advocate will have a hard copy of all the forms readily available when creating a folder for the student being nominated. The other form that parents will need to complete is the GT Parent Survey K-5.
Please note: The Parent Nomination form or the Parent Survey form will NOT be available for you to pick up at Kiker Elementary. The forms are attached at the bottom of this page for you to complete.
The deadline to submit a nomination to your child’s classroom teacher or the Kiker office is: TBD No late nominations will be accepted due to the tight deadline for requesting testing materials and administering assessments.
Parent letters will be mailed, through the US mail, to inform you of the selection committee’s decision. Services for the newly identified students will begin on the first day of school of the 2018 – 2019 school year.
